Dear Friends,

Over the past year, we have begun wrestling with the difficult issue of child sex slavery which takes place right here in Atlanta (and Dunwoody, Norcross, Roswell, etc). You have also started to hear the facts and statistics about this horrific evil. There are 200 to 300 different girls, right here in our city, who are bought and sold for sex multiple times each day. The average age of these girls is 14, but some as young as 10 have been affected. Children throughout our city are at risk for exploitation: 20% of children are solicited sexually while on the Internet.

Please continue to educate yourself about child sex slavery in Atlanta (resources for further reading are listed at the end of this email). We want to respond to this terrible evil together as a church and help equip all of our members individually.

I am excited about what God is doing in our midst as we respond to his call. The goal of Freedom Cry Atlanta is to mobilize Atlantans in their areas of expertise, passion, and connection to fight and bring an end to child sex slavery here. Child sex slavery is a complex problem that requires action from many directions and different kinds of gifts; that is, it requires the church as a whole to act.

We are called to be the church in the world:  hands, feet, mouths, eyes, hearts, brains, lungs, and guts for the glory of God. Please pray about how you might respond to the cry of the oppressed in our midst. And don’t forget to pray for the children who are currently enslaved and those who are in the process of recovery.

Yours,
Pastor Ewan
