We believe God is calling Church of the Redeemer this year to continue to grow together in our commitment to serve the poor and the needy around us, and also to serve visiting students and scholars studying at Georgia Tech.
iCare Atlanta Coat Drive
Between now and Sunday, December 17 we will have plastic collection bins in the foyer for donations of new or gently used fall/winter coats (all sizes) to iCare Atlanta, a local non-profit working to stabilize lives and prevent homelessness.
Host a Chinese Student or Scholar for Thanksgiving
Welcome some Georgia Tech students into your home to experience an American Thanksgiving! We can provide you with a helpful hosting guide and connect you with others who’ve hosted in the past. And, if you host students, Pastor Ewan offers to fry your turkey for you the day before Thanksgiving!
Most of the students and visiting scholars are from China, and will need transportation to and from your home. Minimum sign up is for two students/scholars. Email Pastor Ewan with questions, or click here to sign up.
Prepare a Shoebox for Operation Christmas Child
The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 146 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 150 countries and territories. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.
Pre-printed shoeboxes and instructions are available in the foyer. Filled boxes will be placed on the stage by our children as part of our Bluegrass Sunday Service on November 19. You can also drop off your shoebox at the church office before November 19. Remember to include $9 with your box to cover processing and shipping. Contact Jamie or Debbie if you need more information.
Deliver Food Thanksgiving Week
Because many children in Georgia go hungry during school breaks, Action Ministries is also working with community volunteers to feed kids during the Thanksgiving break. They need volunteers to deliver, make and/or serve meals.
Donate to the Toy & Gift Drive for Malachi’s Storehouse
Malachi’s Storehouse is a year-round emergency food pantry in Dunwoody that serves 800 people a week; providing groceries, clothing and a hot meal to anyone in need. Last year Malachi’s Storehouse gave over 700 gifts to children and families in need.
From November 27 through December 14 we are collecting in the church foyer unwrapped toys for children 0-15 years old, and $5-$10 gift cards to Target, Walmart, and like retailers.
Donate to the CAC Food Drive
The Community Assistance Center (CAC) food pantry receives around 1,200 visits a month and provides food to over 500 families.
